Catherine Ford is a British actress who was born in Bloomsbury. When her father left her household, the actress was raised to maturity by her mother, godparents and grandmother. When she was a young girl she was suffering from an obsessive compulsive disorder that caused anxiety due to word associations. Ford was fascinated by acting during her teenage years and joined the National Youth Theatre. Ford was accepted into the Sylvia Young Theatre School. But after just one few weeks, she realized it was not the right fit for her. Ford was then able to apply for a spot in the Central School of Speech and Drama and was accepted on her 4th attempt. One of her classmates were Shaun Dingwall, who would later have a recurring role as Pete Tyler in Doctor Who. Ford completed her degree in 1993 however at the time she was already making her debut on television in an episode from 1991 of Surgical Spirit; she adopted the name of her professional "Catherine Tate". Through the Nineties, Tate could be seen on television in programmes including The Bill, Men Behaving Badly and London's Burning. Tate was a regular performer on stage as well as a part of the company's season 2000-2001. Tate was first noticed because of her stand-up comedic performances in 1996.
